Creepy Finger “Spookies”
We were looking for something fun to make for our Halloween party yesterday. I’d seen similar recipes for these finger cookies online, and we thought they would make a good addition to the dessert table. The subtle spice of cinnamon adds a nice note to a soft, buttery dough.

Here are some things that might help you with this recipe...
- With a mixer, cream together the sugar and butter on medium speed until it becomes light and fluffy, about 2 – 4 minutes. Add in the egg, vanilla, cinnamon, and baking powder, then mix for 1 – 2 minutes more. Slowly add in the flour until the dough starts to form a ball.
- Remove dough from the bowl and place on a piece of plastic wrap. Press flat with your hands and cover with the plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 – 60 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 325F.
- When chilled, remove the dough from the refrigerator. Lightly dust a cutting board with flour and knead the dough for 1 minute. Pull a piece of dough about 1″ in diameter, and roll between your hands into a finger shape. Place onto a greased cookie sheet, then repeat with the rest of the dough. Using a butter knife, score each finger to create knuckle lines, then place one pistachio on the end of each finger to make fingernails.
- Bake for 8 – 12 minutes, or until lightly golden. Allow to cool for 5 minutes. Using a cotton swab or small paint brush, dust the cocoa powder on the knuckles and around the fingernails to look like dirt.
