Gooey Pretzel Toffee Brownies
One of our annual traditions is attending Addison Oktoberfest, one of the more fun and authentic of such celebrations this side of Munich. Dan and his buddies are members of the Society of the Boot, which is probably self explanatory. Anyway, this year we decided to make pretzel necklaces for the big kids and little kids in our group, because portable snacks are really useful at festivals. We ended up buying 6 pounds of pretzels at Sam’s Club, so we have a bunch of leftovers. Why not add them to something chocolatey, we thought. Here, rich chocolate brownies get gooey with caramel, toffee bits, chocolate chips, and pretzels for a delicious sweet/salty combo.

- Preheat oven to 325F. Spray a 9″ x 13″ brownie pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Stir the brownie mix, oil, eggs, milk (minus 1 tbsp), and vanilla together until well combined. Add 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips, 1/4 cup of the toffee bits, and 1/4 cup of the crushed pretzels to the batter and stir well. Pour into the pan evenly. Bake for 25 – 30 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool for 15 minutes.
- In a microwave safe bowl, add the butter, caramels, and 1 tbsp of milk. Microwave on high power in 20 second intervals until melted together and smooth, stirring to combine. Drizzle the caramel mixture on top of the brownies, then sprinkle with the rest of the chocolate chips, toffee bits, and pretzel bits.
