Soft Pretzels

I find it difficult to resist a big ol’ soft pretzel, especially on game day. I mean, who doesn’t love a giant, salty pretzel while cheering on your team? We just hosted a game-watching party at our house, and these were a hit.

  • One 1/4 oz package of yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3/4 tbsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Kosher salt

Preheat oven to 425F. Cover a large cookie sheet with foil. Set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the yeast in the water and let sit for 3-4 minutes. Stir in the salt and sugar until dissolved. Stir in the flour until mostly combined, then use your hands to knead the dough into a ball. Transfer to a floured board and continue to knead until the dough becomes soft and smooth. Cut golf ball sized pieces of dough and roll into ropes. Form into pretzel shapes and place onto the cookie sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with salt. Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
